Mom Update

Mom had a follow-up appointment Friday with the surgeon. He is "pleased" with the healing of the wound. The abdominal wound is half the size it was earlier in the week (from the size of a quarter two weeks ago then dime size early last week and now half. What's half the size of a dime?) that's great news. The wound continues to drain large amounts daily without signs of that's not so great.

The doctor noticed evidence of new, healthy tissue inside and around the wound. He continues to be hopeful this fistula will close on its own. He wants Mom to continue taking nothing by mouth to allow her stomach to rest which will help decrease bodily fluids and increase healing internally.

He also mentioned to Mom that he will not go in to fix this fistula (this fistula occured after an operation January 24th to fix an old fistula...which occured after an operation September 1st for her Crohn's). He made it sound like surgery's not an option even months down the road for fear of further or more severe damage. BUT he feels good about this one closing...I can't remember a time he said that with the last one.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. We all appreciate it! This Wednesday, February 15 our church is having a mobile prayer force for Mom. All who come will surround my parents house in a prayer circle for a ten minute prayer beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please join us in lifting Mom up in prayer.

James 5:14-16
14. Is any one of you sick?
He should call the elders of the church to pray over him
and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well;
the Lord will raise him up.
16...The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

I was just reading your blog and see that your mother has Crohns. My son has had Crohns. I think that we caught it soon. He found it when he was 20 and is now 41. We also had a toy fox terrier when I was home. His name was Kippy. He was such a sweetie. We all loved him. I enjoyed reading your blog. We had some things in common!!
