Thursday Thirteen #7

Thirteen things about my baby only brother.
Michael Robert is 25 years old today!

1. I remember going to the hospital to see my brand new baby brother, and Daddy holding me up so I could look at him through the glass in the nursery.

2. One morning my mom went to take a bath. I tried to pick Michael up out of his crib (eventhough she told me not to). I finally got him out and dropped him...right on his head. I was so scared. I quickly picked him up and layed him back down saying, "Shhh shhhh shhh," while patting his belly. My mom ran out of the bathroom and asked what happened. "I dunno."

3. He used to steal this to play with. He'd always take the shoes off and put Ken's cowboy boots on instead. I don't know why.

4. He used to "check out" my cassette tapes . He could keep them for two weeks, and if he didn't return them he had to pay a late fee. I'd keep a log just like the library. ( I was a library helper during elementary school.) I don't think he really listened to any of them, but he liked doing it.

5. One year for Christmas we made a nativity using a cradle my grandpa made for me. We used this (with a bandana over his head) as Joseph, this as Mary, and this as Jesus. No joke! We even used these and other stuffed animals as wise men, shepherds and animals.

6. I used to lift Michael up with my legs to fly like Superman. One day we did it without holding hands since we were pretty good at it. Well, he wobbled, I started losing my balance, and my legs flew past my head. He fell forward and almost went head first into the television.

7. Sometimes my mom would leave $2.05 for us to get Hardee's biscuits and gravy for breakfast during the summer. We'd scrounge around for more money so we could have two orders apiece instead of one. We still giggle about that. Who wants just one little biscuit?

8. He couldn't wait for me to get home from morning swim practice during the summer so I could make him an egg sandwich. He loved those things.

9. We were in a hurry to get home after playing at the park. Michael was sitting on my bike seat (blue Schwinn 10-speed), and I was peddling as fast as I could to get us home. Just as I turned into the driveway I heard a loud thud. Michael was on the ground screaming his head off. His shoe string was caught in the spokes. I got him loose and hushed him as much as I could. "Shhhh Michael. We'll get in trouble. We're not supposed to trail on my bike. Shhh," as blood gushed from his face and legs. Like my parents wouldn't notice that!

10. One time (just once) my brother and I got into a fight. Who knows what it was about, but I huffed off to my room and shut the door. Next thing I know I can't open my door. He took string (that he used for his G.I. Joe guys) and tied it around my door knob and the door knob on the coat closet. The door wouldn't open. I got mad and started pulling so he started pulling. After several minutes (why did I need to get out so badly?) I pushed up against the door. Why? I guess to bump him off. After a few times of doing that my door opened...but it broke the door frame. Great! Now my parents were asking us what was going on. Nothing! So we both worked to "fix" it.

11. A few days before I delivered Jacob, Michael had a dream that he was holding Jacob and dropped him...and Jacob died. Michael refused to hold him the evening Jacob was born. My daddy carried Jacob over to him and reassured him he would be fine. Daddy stood right beside him the whole time. My favorite picture from that night (other than the one of me first meeting Jacob) is the picture of my baby brother holding Jacob so tenderly with tears rolling down his cheeks.

12. Michael was bored as Mom and I shopped for a new Easter dress for me. He would hide in the clothes racks or crawl around on the floor. The next thing we knew Michael was right next to us with a $50 bill in his hand. He found it on the floor when he was crawling around in the racks. He asked a few ladies if the money belonged to them, but they said no. My mom took him to the front desk where the manager told Michael if no-one claimed the money in 30 days he could have it. 30 days later...Michael had $50. And he gave it to the missionary at our church that week for VBS (Vacation Bible School). He was even interviewed by our local news channel after they got wind of his selfless act.

13. He also won a free trip from a contest he put his name in for at the fair. A man called and asked for Michael. My dad told him he was outside playing. The man said, "Well, I'm guessing he's not over 18." But he was nice enough to transfer all the information over to my dad's name.

Happy 25th Birthday, Bubby!

My mom and Michael sleeping. I love this picture.

My mom and Mr. Cool.

Kimmy and Michael Easter morning.
It looks like I'm squeezin' the poo outta him.

Michael Robert...the forever Curious George fan.

He's still scared of clowns.
Of course I bought him a clown card!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUBBY! I'm not far behind-AH! I'd like to add one thing to your 13 Thursday list. One time, when we were 5 & in Sunday School, Michael Robert decided he wanted the brown crayon so he told grandma and she took it from me (I was a great share-er) and gave it to Michael. HEH. ;) Love you!

That is so sweet - sharing your feelings for your little bro! I have one little brother too and I'll NEVER forget the time he took all of his clothes off and sat in my Barbie pool. He left HUGE knee indentations in the sides (cause of course, he was way too big to fit inside) which left me with a deformed Barbie pool. lol I STILL torment him with that one.

Thanks for sharing him! And thanks for visiting my list, feel free to use my banner! *grin*

I've fired a few neuros in my time, too, it took a while for me to learn that medicine is more of an art than a science and docs aren't all pretty much the same.
